L’General Inspectorate of the National Gendarmerie was born following the decree of December 30, 2009 in order to align the missions of the Inspectorate of the National Gendarmerie (IGN) with those of the General Inspectorate of Administration (IGA) and theGeneral Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN).
It operates in two distinct areas: judicial inquiries (cases of violence committed by the Gendarmes) and administrative (Discrimination made by the police).
What are the objectives of IGGN?
L’General Inspectorate of the National Gendarmerie (IGGN) pursues its action on two principles:
– The principle of independence on the training of the National Gendarmerie;
– The principle of impartiality in carrying out surveys, audits, studies and in expressing its recommendations;
The Goals to which the IGGN aspires are:
– Guide the director general of the national gendarmerie in his decisions by giving him a more objective view of the institution;
– Maintain the confidence of citizens and elected officials in the gendarmerie while guaranteeing the latter’s capacity to contribute to the rule of law.
What are the missions of IGGN?
The IGGN monitors the application and respect of the rules of ethics and the rights of individuals. It is at the origin of judicial inquiries, when a report is made against a member of the police. She is also working on the future of the gendarmerie with training on ethics in schools and providing feedback.
It manages a reporting system STOP DISCRI accessible on the Internet to the staff of the gendarmerie in order to inform the facts of harassment, discrimination or violence of which they are victims or witnesses in order to inform the IGGN.
IGGN is associated with three divisions :
– The audits, inspections and studies division on occupational health, safety and information. It also manages data protection and finance.
– The internal investigations division acts on judicial and administrative inquiries.
– The report collection and analysis division operates on the reports received and on ethics.
